People, Parks and Pets

Dog Off Lease Areas in Abbotsford BC:
Dogs must be leashed in all parks, with the exception of designated off-lease areas: Gladwin Park, Sumas Canal Dyke Trail, McKay Creek Trail, Stoney Creek/Bateman Park. Park users at these locations are cautioned that dogs off-leash may be encountered. Dogs must be under control of their owners at all times. Doggy bag dispensers are provided to assist dog owners in cleaning up after their pets. Dispose of waste in a litter barrel. Please keep your dog from disturbing wildlife, streams and natural vegetation.

Abbotsford's Skateboard Park:
Opportunities for skate boarding are available at the Optimist Club Skate Board Park at Mouat Park located directly north of Matsqui Recreation Center. The Skate Park is an unsupervised park; use at your own risk. Compulsory safety equipment to be worn by all skateboard park users: helmet, elbow and knee pads.

Fields in Abbotsford BC:
The Parks and Recreation Office coordinates booking services for soccer, football, cricket, rugby, baseball, and slo-pitch. Our fields are used twelve months per year but each field has a 6 week closure at sometime during the course of the year. It may also be necessary to close the fields for play due to adverse weather during winter months in order to prevent major damage to the turn and to avoid injuries to players. Fields are inspected every week from October to April. Field status (either open or closed) is available by contacting the Parks and Recreation Office at 604-859-3134 after 12 noon on Thursdays for scheduled games on Saturday and Sunday. When the office is closed, a recorded message is available at the above number.

Parks Donation Program:
The Parks and Recreation Parks donation program provides a means for individuals, businesses or organizations to make a donation in the name of a friend, family, or co-worker to celebrate or commemorate an occasion. Donations to our parks may be made for (but not restricted to) park benches, picnic tables, water fountains, trees and recreational playground equipment. A popular site available for bench donations is Centennial Park overlooking Mill Lake. Pleas call John Laframboise at 604-853-5485 for more information.

Adopt-A-Park in Abbotsford BC:
